MJ-school senior recognized with scholarship for excellence in editing
UNC School of Media and Journalism student Danny Nett is one of five winners of scholarships from the American Copy Editors Society (ACES).
Nett, a senior from Greensboro, will receive a $1,500 scholarship and free registration and travel assistance to attend the ACES national conference in St. Petersburg, Florida, in March.
“I'm really excited. I actually got the phone call during my film class when I was having a really bad day last week, so that was kind of a nice surprise,” Nett said. “I'm also really hype because I get to travel to the ACES conference in March now, too. I live for conferences.”
“The ACES scholarship is a big honor for Danny and much deserved," said Associate Professor Andy Bechtel. "This program recognizes the best student editors across the country.”
Started in 1997, ACES is made up of more than 1,000 editors from news, academia, government and public relations. One of the organization’s co-founders is Bill Cloud, who taught at the MJ-school for more than 30 years before his retirement in 2014.
