About the Program
Students in the ESC program earn a bachelor's degree in environmental studies or environmental science and a master's degree in media and communication in as little as five years. They complete a selection of School of Media and Journalism courses as undergraduates and apply as juniors for conditional admission as a graduate student. Conditionally admitted students then begin graduate courses during their senior undergraduate year.
ESC students have completed internships at organizations including Sungevity, Popular Science, the Orange County Solid Waste Management Department and the UNC Institute for the Environment. They have studied at environmental field sites and worked on MJ-school reporting trips across North Carolina and internationally.
