Join us in Chapel Hill for a tour of Carroll Hall, home to the UNC School of Media and Journalism! MJ-school tours are scheduled so that visitors have the option of enjoying a complete UNC campus tour led by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions either before or after a 30-minute visit to Carroll Hall.

Academic year

Tours during the fall and spring semesters are led by the MJ-school Ambassadors and include a visit from Charlie Tuggle, senior associate dean for undergraduate studies. Tours depart from the main lobby on the first floor of Carroll Hall. Feel free to reserve a spot in advance — or you can just show up! Reservations are not required for tours during the academic year.

Spring 2019:

Tours will be held on Fridays at 12:30 p.m. beginning Friday, Jan. 18, 2019, and running through Friday, April 26, 2019. Additional tours will be held on Mondays at 12:30 p.m. beginning Monday, March 18, 2019, and running through Monday, April 22, 2018. No tours will be held during Spring Break (March 11-15, 2019), Good Friday (April 19, 2019) and any other time that the University is closed (including inclement weather).

New Student Orientation #1 will be on Thursday, March 21, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in 111 Carroll Hall. Learn about curriculum changes, get advice from a student panel and meet faculty and staff. Free pizza will be served for new students from 6:30-7 p.m. in 141 Carroll Hall.

Both sessions will be conducted identically and students are only required to attend one session prior to admittance to the MJ-school.

Please RSVP for an orientation session by Tuesday, March 19. Students who cannot attend a full session in person should expect an email from mjadmissions@unc.edu to discuss alternative arrangements.

The MJ-school will be providing free professional headshots on the front steps of Carroll Hall on Friday, March 22, from 2-4 p.m. Undergraduate MEJO majors who have just been accepted for Fall 2019 enrollment can sign up. Please dress accordingly. The link for the Doodle poll to reserve a headshot appointment will appear on screen after submitting the New Student Orientation RSVP form. MJ Career Services will be organizing a separate headshot session for all MJ-school students later in the Spring 2019 semester.

Next World Media Symposium returns this spring, bringing industry professionals and their insights to MJ-school students. This year, speakers will discuss the increasing importance of public relations. The event will take place Friday, March 22, from 10 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

The workshop is free and open to the public.

Director of Advertising and Public Relations and Distinguished Professor in Sports Communication John Sweeney will talk with five esteemed professionals who have strong Carolina ties:

Academic year

Tours during the fall and spring semesters are led by the MJ-school Ambassadors and include a visit from Charlie Tuggle, senior associate dean for undergraduate studies. Tours depart from the main lobby on the first floor of Carroll Hall. Feel free to reserve a spot in advance — or you can just show up! Reservations are not required for tours during the academic year.

Spring 2019:

Tours will be held on Fridays at 12:30 p.m. beginning Friday, Jan. 18, 2019, and running through Friday, April 26, 2019. Additional tours will be held on Mondays at 12:30 p.m. beginning Monday, March 18, 2019, and running through Monday, April 22, 2018. No tours will be held during Spring Break (March 11-15, 2019), Good Friday (April 19, 2019) and any other time that the University is closed (including inclement weather).

Join us in Chapel Hill for a tour of Carroll Hall, home to the UNC School of Media and Journalism! MJ-school tours are scheduled so that visitors have the option of enjoying a complete UNC campus tour led by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions either before or after a 30-minute visit to Carroll Hall.

New Student Orientation #2 will be on Friday, March 22, from 1-2 p.m. in the Freedom Forum Conference Center. Learn about curriculum changes, get advice from a student panel and meet faculty and staff. Free pizza will be served for new students from 12:30-1 p.m. in the Freedom Forum.

Both sessions will be conducted identically and students are only required to attend one session prior to admittance to the MJ-school.

Please RSVP for an orientation session by Tuesday, March 19. Students who cannot attend a full session in person should expect an email from mjadmissions@unc.edu to discuss alternative arrangements.

The MJ-school will be providing free professional headshots on the front steps of Carroll Hall on Friday, March 22, from 2-4 p.m. Undergraduate MEJO majors who have just been accepted for Fall 2019 enrollment can sign up. Please dress accordingly. The link for the Doodle poll to reserve a headshot appointment will appear on screen after submitting the New Student Orientation RSVP form. MJ Career Services will be organizing a separate headshot session for all MJ-school students later in the Spring 2019 semester.

The school's Usage and Grammar Test is designed to evaluate word usage, grammar and punctuation competencies. It is a timed 40-minute test given electronically in Sakai that consists of 100 multiple-choice questions. Allow approximately one hour in your schedule.

Registration opens Friday, March 15, at 8 a.m. and closes Thursday, March 21, at 4 p.m. Testing requires fully charged laptop with Mozilla Firefox browser downloaded.

After registration closes, waitlisted students should be prepared to respond to a time-sensitive email up to 30 minutes prior to test time to secure any late-vacated seats.

  • Cancellations prior to closing: Cancel your test registration by accessing the Mobile Summary via your registration confirmation email. After logging in with your registered email and opening your ticket summary, an option for canceling your order will be available. If you have trouble canceling, please contact Marla Barnes.
  • Cancellations after closing: You must notify Marla Barnes at your earliest convenience.

Students self-identified with ARS must notify Marla Barnes upon seat reservation at the latest.
