Usage and Grammar Test

The school's usage and grammar test is designed to evaluate word usage and grammar competencies. It is a timed 50-minute test given electronically through Sakai that consists of 40 usage and 60 grammar multiple-choice questions. Allow about one hour in your schedule for this test.

Journalism majors are required to score 70 percent or better on the test prior to graduation and are required to begin testing while taking MEJO 153. Journalism minors are not required to score 70 percent or better.

Consider this test seriously. It is a degree requirement just as any required course. It is offered 12–14 times throughout each fall and spring semester, once each summer session, and there is no limit or penalty for how many times the test is taken. Seats are limited to 20 per test and, as the end of the semester approaches, availability can be extremely competitive. If you do not complete the requirement prior to leaving campus, you must return to fulfill the obligation. Your degree is NOT awarded until you complete all requirements.

Reserve your seat electronically beginning one week prior to each test date via the school’s calendar or the Register here links on the PDF schedule below. If your plans change, cancel your registration.
