The Bateman Case Study Competition was founded by the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) in 1973 to give students the opportunity to use classroom education and internship experience to create and implement full public relations campaigns.

2017 — Campaign to Change Direction

FIRST PLACE

PRSSA challenged participants to develop a campaign on behalf of the Campaign to Change Direction, to change the culture of mental health in America. The goal of the 2017 competition was to change the way we think and talk about mental health. Participating teams will achieve this goal, in part, through education on the Five Signs of mental suffering, which are: change in personality, agitation, withdrawal, decline in personal care and hopelessness.

After logging more than 400 hours, the Carolina PRSSA team Emotional WELLness — consisting of Carter Chambliss '18, Rachel Rhodes '18, Sarah Sturdivant '18 and Sloan Taylor '18 — received first place in the nation.

2016 — Student Veterans of America (SVA)

HONORABLE MENTION

The 2016 client was Student Veterans for America (SVA) – teams were challenged to raise awareness and spark local and national dialogue around the importance of education.The goals were to increase awareness on college campuses and in communities about veterans who are students around the globe, as well as increasing the support and networks for these deserving individuals.

The MJ-school’s team, consisting of Elizabeth Stegall '17, Payton Collier '17, Micah Stubbs '18, Lauren Dixon '18 and Pambu Kali '18, received one of 16 honorable mentions for their campaign for the Carolina Veterans Organization
